Armed Forces Flag Day Celebrated At Raj Bhavan

Goa Governor Dr. S. S. Sidhu expressed happiness over the fact that the State government was helping ex-servicemen who have rendered valuable services to the nation while addressing the Armed Forces Flag reception at the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.
Speaking further he said that the country is now passing through a critical juncture in terms of security concerns. There is a need for greater vigilance and preparedness to face any challenges and threats, both from within and beyond its borders, he said.
“In our long –drawn efforts to achieve the avowed objectives and aspirations enshrined in the Constitution, we need a peaceful atmosphere in the country, devoid of tensions and threats, for its continued economic development and inclusive growth”, he said.

He added: “It is our belief that, in keeping with their highest and hallowed traditions, the Armed Forces will continue to render their selfless service to the nation’s honour, integrity, freedom and peace with still greater enthusiasm, determination and patriotic spirit.”
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said that the Armed Forces Flag Day reminds us of the sacrifices of the officers and men of the armed forces. The civil society, he said, should express solidarity with the armed forces and give them a message that we all are with them.
Digambar however, expressed his concern over that fact that not many Goans were joining the Armed Forces and stressed the need to motivate them to do so.
The Governor awarded the Army Trophy to Director, Education Department, Celsa Pinto for highest collection on Flag Day last year.  Director of Women and Child Sanjiv Gadkar received the Navy Trophy for the second highest collection while Excise Commissioner Sanjiv Dessai received the Air Force trophy for third highest collection.  The ‘Ummid se Jyada’ trophy was bagged by the Directorate of Women and Child.
The Achievers award this year was bagged by Ex-Sergeant in the Air Force and Grade -1 Officer of Goa Civil Service Arun Dessai. The Armed Forces Flag Day souvenir was also released on the occasion.
