Alibaug: The Alibaug Court has remanded Arnab Goswami, Editor-in-Chief, Republic Media Network to judicial custody for 14 days and denied police custody in the case related to the abetment of suicide of Anvay Naik. However, he has not been granted bail.
Arnab Goswami’s lawyers will be moving the Bombay HC for bail tomorrow.
The Magistrate Court gave its verdict in the FIR registered by Akshata Naik for allegedly abetting in the suicide of interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik who were directors of Concords Designs Pvt. Ltd.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate observed that there is no chain showing nexus between the suicide and the role of the accused i.e. Arnab, in the case that had been closed in 2018 and then reopened now, with Arnab’s arrest on Wednesday coming completely out of the blue amid the ongoing Mumbai police witch-hunt against Republic Media Network. Furthermore, the judge also noted that the case was reopened without any prior consent from the court.
The Raigad police sought 14 days police custody of Arnab on grounds that they have reopened the investigation in May and have been gathering significant evidence supporting the FIR. They further said that Arnab being an influential person may tamper in the investigation process.
