#ArrestBishopFranco: Church organisations’ strike continues into second day

The Kerala Catholic Renewal Movement, Kerala Catholic Church Reformation Movement (KCRM) and Joint Christian Council along with 12 more organisations and five more nuns who have come out in support of the raped nun, sat on an indefinite hunger strike for the second day to protest against the failure of the Kerala Police to arrest Bishop Franco Mulakkal of the Archdiocese of Jalandhar.

The protest was held at the High Court Junction and the protesters with placards were demanding for an immediate arrest of the accused rapist Bishop Franco Mulakkal.

“Seventy four days have passed since the complaint was launched against Bishop Franco. The police had recorded her statements several times. But accused Bishop was interrogated only once. We are fighting for our sister. She has been denied justice by the Church, government and the police. We are ready to go to any extent for ensuring justice to our sister,” a nun said addressing the protesters gathered here.

She also sought to know why Bishop Franco has not been arrested despite sufficient evidence against him. She also questioned the Church’s stand on the matter.

The victim nun accused Jalandhar Bishop Franco of raping her multiple times between 2014 and 2016.

A special team probing the case has said that in the investigations, it has been revealed that Bishop Franco has lied in his statements.
