#ArrestBishopFranco: State finally appoints Special Public Prosector for the Nun-rape case
Kochi: The Kerala government has finally appointed Jithesh J Babu as Special Public Prosecutor to represent the state in the Bishop Franco Mulakkal rape case.
The move comes at time when the Kerala police has completed 90 per cent of its investigations and can now file the chargesheet on the case.
The senior clergyman is accused of raping a 44-year old nun 13 times during the period of 2014 and 2016.
Bishop Franco was arrested on September 21 after a huge uproar by Christian supporters in Kerala fighting for justice for the raped nun and relentless media focus.
He was subjected to questioning by the Kerala Crime branch for two days.
The clergyman became the first Bishop in India to be charged with IPC Sections 342 (wrongful confinement), 376 (2k) (rape on a woman incapable of giving consent), 376 (2n) (causing grievous bodily harm during rape) 377 (unnatural offence), 506 (1) (criminal intimidation).
