Mumbai: Maharashtra state cabinet minister Ashok Chavan who is also Chairman of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Maratha Reservation, has appealed to the Central Government to take a positive stand in the Supreme Court regarding Maratha reservation.
He was speaking to reporters after a Supreme Court hearing on the matter yesterday.
The Supreme Court hearing on Maratha reservation will now be held from March 8 to 18,he said.
Chavan demanded that the Attorney General should take a stand on the issue of socially and economically backward class-SEBC reservation on March 18.
The Supreme Court in its hearing on February five demanded that the Center should make necessary constitutional provision in the ongoing session of Parliament for Maratha reservation as well as economically backward class reservation.
Meanwhile, Vinod Patil, petitioner of Maratha reservation, has said that the state government should stand in the court with a well-planned policy. He was talking to mediapersons after court hearing.
The ongoing agitation for Maratha reservation is against the inaction of the state government and will continue till our demands are met, Patil added.
