Asian Games 2018: Sharath & Manika clinch Bronze in Table Tennis

Jakarta, Aug 29 (UNI) India’s Manika Batra and Sharath Achanta Kamal lost to China’s Chuqin Wang and Yingsha Sun in the mixed semi-final at the 18th Asian games held here on Wednesday.

The duo lost their semis clash 9-11, 5-11, 13-11, 4-11, 8-11 in just 39 minutes and settled for bronze medal.

China extended their lead over India as they win the fourth game 11-4. After a super third game, Manika and Sharath failed to score in the fourth game against Chinese counterpart.

In the third game, Indians made a come back and won 13-11. The Chinese duo saved 5 game points, however, in the end, Manika and Sharath prevailed to take the game. India were still 1-2 behind in the semi-final.

After, Wang and sun won the second game 11-5. Indians, needed a miracle to overturn the 0-2 deficit and win the match.

Earlier, in the day the Indian mixed double teams advanced to the round-16 of the table tennis competition by defeating Malaysia’s Javen Choong and Karen Dick 11-2, 11-5, 11-8 to enter pre-quarters.

This was the first medal of the day 11.
