Assam can be only safe in hands of BJP: Amit Shah

Majuli: Home Minister Amit Shah today said that Assam can be only safe in the hands of the BJP which has ensured peace and development in the state in last five years.

Addressing the first of three election rallies in Assam during the day in the constituency of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Majuli, Mr Shah alleged that when Congress was in power, there was agitation, violence, bomb blasts, deaths and curfews were common.

Criticizing the Congress-AIUDF alliance, Mr Shah said,”Rahul Gandhi talks of protecting Assam’s ‘asmita’ , but today I want to ask him publicly – will Congress do it with AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal on his lap?.”

Raking the issue of cross border infiltration, Mr Shah said BJP is the only party which can save Assam free Assam from infiltrators.

If by chance Ajmal comes to power, “will Assam be safe from infiltrators? Do people want more infiltrators to come into the state?” he asked.

He also accused the Congress of a policy of divide and rule, while stating that BJP’s policy is ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas’.

Mr Shah will address back to back three rallies in Assam today.

Assam goes to polls in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6 to elect 126 legislative members. The results of the polls will be declared on May 2.
