Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday laid wreaths to pay homage to the slain policemen who lost their lives in the border clash on Monday night, in Silchar.
Chief Minister Sarma on Tuesday morning landed in Silchar and went to Silchar Medical College to meet the injured police personnel.
An uneasy calm prevailed in the conflict a day after six policeman were killed defending the constitutional boundary.
At least 50 police personnel have also been injured in the bloody conflict.
Earlier, Mizoram government had refuted claims by the Assam government that it instigated the violence.
Assam government hit back saying that the Mizoram government escalated the tension in the conflict area which resulted in the killing of its police personnel.
The incidents came two days after Amit Shah held talks with the chief ministers of eight northeastern states and underscored the need to resolve the lingering border disputes.
The two sides have been engaged in a dispute over alleged encroachments in each others land.
