Goa’s Education Minister Babush Monserrate was booked under Customs Act and Foreign Exchange Management Act on Saturday morning after a six hour long grilling by Customs officials.
Sources revealed that an alert has been sent to all the international airports in the country not to permit Babush to leave India.
He has been booked for attempting to carry foreign currency far beyond the permissible limits while scheduled to fly to the United Arab Emirates on Saturday last.
Babush was grilled for over 18 hours on last Saturday following which he was allowed to go as the Goa Legislative Assembly was in session and was asked to report to Customs on Friday with relevant documents.
He was grilled on Friday and while he could account for the 25,000 USD he was carrying, the source from where he got 75,000 UAE Dirhams following which he was summoned to the Customs office this morning.
Till afternoon it was not yet know whether Babush was arrested by the Customs for violating the Customs Act and also FEMA.
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat was not available for his comments on the latest development, while Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar said that Babush should be sacked as a minister as he is now booked for violating the laws of the land.
