The Mumbai Customs late Saturday night released Goa’s Education Minister Babush Monserrate who was arrested after he was found travelling with huge amounts of money in foreign currency to Dubai. However, his passport has been impounded along with the money found in his baggage.
It may be recalled that in the early hours of Saturday, Customs arrested him after he was found carrying USD 250,000 in cash besides another Rs 30,00,000. Babush who was reportedly seated in the aircraft when the discovery of cash in his baggage was made, was asked to get off the craft and then subsequently grilled for nearly 20 hours.
Although he has been released, he has been issued a show cause notice which he has to reply to by Tuesday subsequent to which the latter process will follow.
