Ban Mining Trucks From Maharashtra: Dayanand

Continuing his attack on the mining industry, former minister Dayanand Narvekar has called for banning mining trucks from Maharashtra unloading the ore at Sirsaim in Bardez Taluka on grounds that it is responsible for the frequent break down in water supply to various villages in the Taluka.
He pointed out that ore is transported by barges from Sirsaim to Mormugao Port via Aldona-Quitola-Ecoxim and added that due to the frequent movement of the barges, the underwater HDPE pipeline between Quitola and Sirsaim gets demaged due to which there is break down in water supply to Aldona, Pomburpa, Ecoxim, Salvador-do-Mundo and Socorro.

Dayanand argued that Goa does not get any revenue from the ore transported here from Maharashtra. On the contrary it is causing problems for Goans, he said and threatened to launch an agitation against the movement of the trucks carrying ore from Maharashtra to Goa.
