The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Subhash Shirodkar has called for a ban on sale of agricultural land to foreigners and said he would call on Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to enact the necessary legislation.
In fact, Digambar Kamat had last year promised on the floor of the house that the government would enact necessary legislation to ban sale of agricultural land to foreigners. However, till date nothing has been done to fulfill that promise.
“Such legislation is definitely needed. I will ask the Chief Minister to speed up the process,” Shirodkar said while pointing out that the legislation could be on lines of the one passed by the government of Uttarakhand.
Opposition to housing projects are being voiced from different villages in Goa as the locals fear that they will be reduced to a minority given the indiscriminate construction activity in Goa where at times each housing project provides for over 60 apartments.
