Mumbai: A Navi Mumbai resident has been arrested for allegedly instigating stranded migrants in the maximum city to defy lockdown orders and gather at a railways station in order to return to their native place, police said here on Wednesday.
The accused, Vinay Dubey, who was detained on Tuesday night, uploaded a video on social media, in which he can be heard asking the government to make some travel arrangements for the migrants. Dubey, also warned that if arrangements were not made, he, along with many, might earmark the journey to native place on foot.
As per police, the video was one of the reason which prompted hundreds to migrants to defy lockdown orders and gather at Bandra station on Tuesday afternoon.
He has been booked under IPC sections 117, 153 A, 188, 269, 270, 505 (2) and Section 3 of Epidemic Diseases Act, police said.
The accused is in the custody of Azad Maidan police and will be produced to a local court on Wednesday, police added.
Meanwhile, an FIR was also registered against a TV journalist in Osmanabad for broadcasting a false report that special trains have been arranged to ferry migrants from Mumbai.
Journalist Rahul Kulkarni was detained from Osmanabad and taken to Bandra in Mumbai for investigations.
As per the FIR, the journalist has telecast the a news report which said that special train have been arranged by the railways for stranded labours in Mumbai.
On his part, Kulkarni said that he ran the report as per a railway circular.
Hundreds of migrants stranded in Mumbai, defied lockdown and gathered at Bandra station on Tuesday afternoon hoping to go home. Later, police restored to mild lathi-charge to disperse them.
