Mumbai: An FIR was registered against a TV journalist in Osmanabad on Wednesday for broadcasting a false report that special trains have been arranged to ferry migrants from Mumbai, which allegedly led to gathering of hundreds of people at Bandra station on Tuesday despite imposition of lockdown.
Journalist Rahul Kulkarni was detained from Osmanabad and taken to Bandra in Mumbai for investigations.
Kulkarni was booked under IPC sections 188 (disobedience to order), 269, 270 (spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life), 117 (abetting commission of offence by the public), an official said.
As per the FIR, the journalist has telecast a news report that special train have been arranged by the railways for stranded labours in Mumbai.
On his part, Kulkarni has said that he ran the report as per a railway circular.
On Tuesday night, Mumbai police have arrested one Vinay Dube in connection with circulation of a video Clip on Whatsapp.
Hundreds of migrants stranded in Mumbai, defied lockdown and gathered at Bandra station on Tuesday afternoon hoping to go home. Later, police restored to mild lathi-charge to disperse them.
