It is likely to be a straight fight between the Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party at the by-election for Valpoi Assembly constituency scheduled to be held on 18th October with an independent candidate trying to play spoilsport.
Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane filed his nomination papers on Friday and is expected to have an easy run given his clout in the constituency and the work that he has done in terms of providing employment to his constituents not only in the departments under his tutelage but also others.
The Bharatiya Janata Party on the other hand appears to have zeroed in on Santosh Haldankar, the younger brother of Narhari Haldankar who had won the seat for the BJP twice in the past and opted out of electoral politics at the last general elections on health ground after having undergone heart by-pass surgery.
Meanwhile, in what is an apparent embarrassment to the Congress, Vishwesh Porob filed his nominations as an independent candidate for the by-elections. Vishwesh is the son of Ashok Porob who is the Congress’ dummy candidate at these elections.
