BBSM’s Counter Threat

Even as the parents demanding grants to English medium primary schools set a deadline of 7th May to the government to meet their demand, the Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Mandal (BBSM) threatened to paralyse the entire State if the medium of instruction policy is changed.
At a meeting held on Thursday evening, BBSM resolved to block the National Highway at Patradevi, Polem and Mollem – the three entry/exit points to Goa – if the government changes its policy on medium of instructions.

BBSM convenor Shashikala Kakodkar, Arvind Bhatikar, Subhash Velingkar, Kanta Patnekar and Prashant Naik were amongst those who participated in the meeting where the plan of action was chalked out.
It was also decided to hold taluka level meetings within the next fortnight followed by village level meetings to create awareness amongst the people about the medium of instruction issue.
