Benaulim Rape case: One accused is a driver of a senior official of the Agriculture Department of Goa

Panaji: In shocking revelations coming on the floor of the house during the ongoing Goa Assembly session, one of the four accused in the Benaulim rape case who posed as policemen and gang-raped two minors worked for the Agriculture Department.

This was reportedly revealed by the Chief Minister of Goa, Dr Pramod Sawant on the floor of the house during the questioning by the opposition leaders on allegation of political influence to save two of the accused in the Benaulim rape case.

Former Deputy CM Vijai Sardesai, former Deputy Chief Minister and Goa Forward Party (GFP) president, alleged, “An highly influential person called SP South Goa to save two accused persons.” Sardesai, however, refused to name the person. He continued to allege that there was political involvement to save the two accused persons.

Chief Minister of Goa, Dr Pramod Sawant demanded that Fatorda MLA name the political figure involved in trying to influence the investigations into the rape case of the two minors.

Goa’s Agriculture Minister is the Deputy Chief Minister of Goa, Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar. The accused Rajesh Mane is a driver for a senior government official in the Agricultural Department of Goa.

On Sunday, two minors girls were raped by men posing to be Goa police. The male friends of the girls raped were also assaulted. The minor girls were gang-raped by all four accused. The accused identified were Asif Hateli, Rajesh Mane, Gajanand Chinchinkar and Nitin Yabbal.
