Bengal Police arrest ten for obstructing CM convoy and raising Jay Sree Ram slogan

Kolkata, May 31 (GCCurrentAffairs) Altogether ten people have been arrested, accused of obstructing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s convoy and raising ” Jay Sree Ram” slogans while she was passing through a jute mill at Jagaddal under Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas, even as BJP MP Arjun Singh threatened to gherao local police station on Saturday.

The arrests were made during nightlong raid at the Jagaddal area, hours after the chief minister on Thursday afternoon was seen coming out of her car and shouting at those who raised slogan and allegedly obstructed her convoy.

The chief minister was also seen directing her security force to conduct naka checking during night.

Despite this, slogan of Jay Sree Ram could be heard while the chief minister was leaving the area

and confronted again such slogan near Naihati June mill.

Ms Banerjee visited the area to bring back those families, who deserted homes during and post result clashes in the area.

The arrested, who have been kept in Jagaddal police station custody, would be produced before the Barrackpore court later today.

Meanwhile, BJP MP from Barrackpore Arjun Singh, who is now camping in New Delhi, condemned the arrest and said raising Jay Sree Ram slogan was not a crime under the law of the country.

He said he would gherao the Jagaddal police station on Saturday.
