Thane: As the death toll has surged to 20 in the Bhiwandi building collapse and more than dozen are still feared trapped under the debris, the Bhiwandi Nijampur Municipal Corporation(BNMC) has started vacating ruinous buildings so as to avert another such mishap in future.
On Tuesday, BNMC official, Laxman Kokni apprised that three buildings, located in surrounding of the doomed site, have been vacated between Monday night and this morning.
All these buildings, he continued, were ground plus three-storey and housed 13 tenants and at least 30 people. The power supply to these dilapidated infrastructures has also been cut off and civic engineers are mulling upon their demolition, he added.
The ongoing rescue operations on the collapse site are getting delayed owing to narrow and congested localities.
