BJP delegation meets EC to submit a memorandum

Kolkata: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Sabyasachi Dutta and Shishir Bajoria on Thursday met Election Commission (EC) officers in the city and submitted a memorandum as part of a BJP delegation.

In the memorandum, they said, “We are shocked to see on TV that the Hon’ble Chief Mimster Smt. Mamata Banerjee has been injured in Nandigram Assembly Constituency wherein she has alleged that she was pushed by some people,”

“This a very serious allegation involving the security of the Hon’ble Chief Minister and we are concerned that how such an incident could have occurred especially when the Director, Security and Additional Director, Security were both present at the spot. Police personnel in Nandigram today were tn thousands which makes the breach even more alarming,” the memorandum said.

“We request that a detailed enquiry ordered. Also the video footage is made available in the public domain to clear the air,” the memorandum added.

BJP state president Dilip Ghosh today demanded a CBI probe into the alleged attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying it needs to be seen whether the incident was a “well-scripted drama” to garner votes.

“It needs to be probed what actually happened. How come a Z-plus protectee gets attacked is a matter that has to be looked into. The state should order a CBI probe to bring out the truth,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress today slammed the Election Commission for “failing” to provide security to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who was injured during election campaign in Nandigram, and said the EC can’t shun responsibility as it is in charge of law and order situation in the poll-bound West Bengal.

Accusing the EC of acting “as per orders” of the BJP leaders, the TMC delegation after meeting the EC officials here alleged that the “Election Commission did nothing despite there being reports of a possible attack on Ms Banerjee”.

The health condition of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who sustained injuries in Nandigram on Wednesday evening, remained stable on Thursday.
