BJP Goa President is frustrated as party is not going to come to power: Congress

Goa Congress Spokesperson Pallavi Bhagat on Thursday said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Goa President was frustrated as BJP was not coming to power again.

Reacting to the statement made by BJP on Wednesday wherein he had said that former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat had jumped from BJP to Congress, in a way terming it as a defection, she said,”I want to remind Sadanand Shet Tanawade that Congress Leader Digambar Kamat did not jump nor defect from BJP to Congress. He resigned as an MLA of the BJP and contested elections again on Congress ticket to seek people’s mandate. After winning his by-elections in 2005, Digambar Kamat has won three more elections in Margao in 2007, 2012 and 2017. We are confident that he will win with thumping majority in the coming assembly elections with the blessings of Madganvkars.”

”I also want to bring to the notice of Sadanand Shet Tanawade that the BJP Government always grabbed power in Goa by going against the mandate of the people and backstabbing others. Former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was ‘Master of Defections’ who had attempted to topple Digambar Kamat’s government twice between 2007 to 2012,” Bhagat said.

”We thank Sadanand Shet Tanawade for openly accepting that former CM late Manohar Parrikar always wanted to defeat Digambar Kamat. The U-Turn master Manohar Parrikar with dictatorial attitude was always jealous of love and affection received from Goans by Digambar Kamat who is known for his simplicity and accessibility,” she alleged.

”Hope the legacy bearers of late Manohar Parrikar also remember his words at Lohia Maidan, Margao in 2005 where he had declared that he will quit politics if Digambar Kamat wins the bye-election that year. The BJP came to power in Goa by doing chickanery. They have remained in power by stealing peoples mandate and encouraging mass defections. Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat has moved a resolution for the upcoming assembly session demanding stricter laws to put an end to defections. The statement of Sadanand Shet Tamawade exposes that their party is not interested in putting an end to the evil of defections and they want to continue with horse trading methods to grab power,” the Congress leader said.

”The political bankruptcy of BJP is also exposed from the statement of Sadanand Shet Tananwade who in a way accepted that they dont have a capable candidate in Margao and hence would launch a campaign based on BJP symbol. The symbol of BJP reflects the “Loot Us” administration of the corrupt BJP Government who have literally pushed the Goans under huge financial burdens,” she alleged.
