BJP nominee in Mananthavady decline offer to contest in Assembly poll

Wayanad: The BJP suffered a setback in Kerala after one of the candidates nominated by the party on Sunday to contest in the April 6 polls declined the offer.

A teaching assistant in the University of Veterinary Sciences here, Manikantan has been nominated by the party to contest from the Tribal-reserved Mananthavady constituency.

However, Manikantan, belonging to the Paniya tribe, declined the offer by the BJP saying he does not wish to contest in the poll as he dont want to get associated with any political party.

The first MBA graduate from the community, Manikantan says he is happy with his work, family and does not wish to enter into active politics.

In a video shared on Monday, the 31-year Manikantan, Manikuttan among his close aides, said he was happy that he was honoured with such a nomination. However, as he is not interested to be branded with any particular party, he does not wish to contest and hence refuses to accept the nomination.
