BJP Not To Join Protest Against DMD: Irani

Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mahila Morcha President and a popular television artiste Smruti Irani said her party will not join the protests against the Hindi film Dum Maro Dum but said the party will instead demand the setting up of a Broadcast Regulatory Authority to check the contents of films and other broadcast material.
Taking a pot shot at Congress’ Rajya Sabha member Shantaram Naik’s stand on the movie, she said it was ironical since his party government in  Goa has failed miserably to provide security to women.

Speaking on Dum Maro Dum she admitted that she had not viewed the promos but said that she was told they were derogatory to women and wondered why the Congress government in Goa had not done anything about it.
Irani said her party had already submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting asking for setting up a Broadcast Regulatory Authority on the lines of those existing in the West to ensure that no content that is derogatory to women is broadcast through any medium.
