BJP on ‘Mission repeat 2022’ mission for HP polls

Hamirpur (HP): The BJP that is in power both at the centre and in Himachal Pradesh is keen on ‘Mission repeat-2022’ for the state Assembly elections.

This became evident from the three-day state tour of party president JP Nadda at a time when his services were badly needed in other parts of the country also.

The party had won the last Assembly elections in 2017 when former chief minister PK Dhumal was declared as the Chief Ministerial candidate of the state.

However, sadly, Dhumal lost the election tamely to his own fast friend, Rajendra Rana of the Congress party and Jai Ram Thakur was installed as the Chief Minister of the state.

Since then, the party has won the Four Lok Sabha seats and two Assembly bye-election of Dharamshala and another in Nahan with thumping majority.

However, it could win Municipal corporations of Dharamshala and Mandi and lost two others of Solan and Palampur to the Congress party. And this has created an impression in the party leadership that all is not well in the state especially at a time when bye-elections to two Vidhan Sabhas and one Lok Sabha seat are due in the state shortly.

There were reports that the BJP lost two corporations as the old cadre was ignored and the new one who had joined the party from the Congress party were given preference and as a result, the old cadre ignored the official candidates as a result they lost the elections.

Reports reaching here say that the current three days tour of the All India BJP President, JP Nadda who hails from Bilaspur district of the state is important from the organizational issue as well as to prepare the party for the next Vidhan Sabha elections.

Sources say that Nadda during his meeting with the Chief Minister, Jai Ram Thakur and other senior party leaders in Bilaspur told them not to ignore the old guards and give them proper respect failing which the party may suffer much in the coming elections.

It is said that Nadda told them that if we continued to believe the new people on West Bengal pattern, the situation will become clumsy and the party will face problems of its Mission repeat 2022 drive.

Earlier, while coming out of the helicopter at Loohnu ground, he hugged an old worker of the party that wanted to offer him a buckeye and surprised all, including his security people.

However, this gave the message to all that he was always for the welfare and wellbeing of the old workers of the party that had made the organization to rise to the present level from scratches.

Nadda, who celebrated the birthday of his father, Prof. LK Nadda at his Bijapur village in Bilaspur district on Sunday today inspected the Atal Tunnel at Manali and was happy with its construction and said that it would change the scenario of the nation. While it would be beneficial for the army point of view, it will also help in promoting tourism in the Lahaul and Spiti valley of the state.

Sources in the party told this reporter that Nadda told the senior party leaders of the state especially its organizational secretary, Pavan Rana to work for uniting the cadre, wherever there was a need in this respect.

He (Nadda) also him and his other team members to visit all parts of the state on regular basis and submit him detailed reports about the organization working there and their rapport with the government functionaries.

Whatever may be the outcome of the tour of Nadda to the state but one thing is sure that he has given a clear impression to all that he will not tolerate indiscipline and that care and welfare of the old guards of the party was top on his agenda.
