The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Goa has decided to come-out in support of its North Goa District President and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo in raising stiff opposition to the its own BJP-led government giving the operation license to the promoters of ‘Playboy Club’ to launch the first of its adult-entertainment restaurants in India at Calangute, Goa.
BJP spokesperson Dr Wilfred Mesquitha stated, BJP will never support the club. The party is against anything that is bad for the state. Such kind of clubs would affect the cultural values of Goa. We will take up the matter with our government.
Lobo has announced in a press conference earlier this week that he would sit on an indefinite hunger strike if the government in particular the tourism minister goes ahead with giving its clearance to the Playboy Club. He termed the club as nothing than a ‘glorified dance club’. However, confirmed sources state that the tourism minister Dilip Parulekar has in principle agreed to the requests of the promoters of the club. Incidentally, former Congress MLA Agnelo Fernandes is a stake-holder in the Goa project.
