BJP sees SC order on Kolkata top cop as Mamata’s moral defeat: “CM is delusional”

New Delhi, Feb 5 (IECurrentAffairs) Shortly after Supreme Court ordered controversial Kolkata police chief Rajeev Kumar to make himself available before the CBI on the chit fund probe, the BJP on Tuesday welcomed the verdict saying the court directives reflect the moral defeat of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

‘Mamata Banerjee ki naitik haar (It is moral defeat of Mamata Banerjee),’ tweeted BJP in charge of West Bengal Kailash Vijayvargiya. He also said the court order marks ‘victory of democracy’.

The Supreme Court order on Tuesday is seen as a major blow to Ms Banerjee, who sat on a Dharna on Sunday protesting ‘central government’s move to subvert the authorities of the states”.

According to sources, after Attorney General K K Venugopal told the apex court that the law and order situation is not conducive in West Bengal for questioning of Rajeev Kumar, the bench said in its order that he can appear in Shillong in the north east.

BJP leaders including Union Minister Babul Supriyo also took potshots at the Trinamool chief after she claimed ‘victory’ following the Supreme Court order.

“Mamataji is delusional, claiming victory. When did CBI say that they went to arrest Rajeev Kumar,” tweeted Mr Supriyo, also a lawmaker from West Bengal, within minutes the Chief Minister said in Kolkata that the apex court order was a victory for her.

BJP spokesman Sambit Patra also took to the micro blogging site and wrote: “Despite the huge loss of face for Mamata Banerjee in the Supreme Court today, she still continues to entertain the Nation with Her very evident Frustration..through a so called Press Conference. Confluence of The Confused”.

Congress MP from West Bengal Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury continued his tirade against the Chief Minister and said – “We need to ask Mamata Banerjee that why is Rajeev Kumar so important for her? There have been her leaders accused in the case. Why so much for Rajeev Kumar?”

At the media briefing on Monday, BJP leader and Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has said:

“The total suspicious circumstances surrounding the situation proves that this Police Commissioner knows a lot and therefore he has to be saved.”

Mr Prasad also said Ms Mamata Banerjee had not protested when her party colleagues Madan Mitra, Sports and Transport Minister and her confidant, was arrested on December 12, 2014.

Several important Trinamool leaders including Sudip Bandyopadhayay, floor leader in Lok Sabha, and party MP Tapas Pal besides Madan Mitra were arrested from time to time but Ms Banerjee did not protest the manner she has done since Sunday.
