Hyderabad: BJP’s Telangana Unit President, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, MP, continued his protest in the party’s Karimnagar office for the second day on Tuesday against his arrest by Siddipet police on Monday.
Sanjay who locked himself in the office said that he would continue his protest till Siddipet Commissioner of Police Joel Davis was suspended and transferred for his alleged highhanded behaviour.
Sanjay also urged the Election Commission to intervene in the matter.
A large number of BJP workers too staged a dharna in support of the MP in front of his Karimnagar office.
It may be mentioned that the BJP President was arrested on the outskirts of Siddipet on Monday as he was proceeding to the town where police seized huge cash from the residence of BJP candidate for Dubbak by election M Raghunandan Rao’s relative amid high drama.
After his arrest, police forcibly sent Mr Sanjay to Karimnagar stating that his entry into Siddipet town may lead to tension.
Meanwhile, Joel Davis told reporters that Arjun Rao, a close relative of the BJP candidate had admitted that the money was sent by his brother-in-law and was meant to be distributed among the electorate ahead of the November three by-election.
Davis said that police had followed all due procedures while carrying out the raids, adding that the money was seized in the presence of “panch” witnesses.
He said that the BJP workers attacked police and snatched away a part of the seized cash from police.
The Police Commissioner said action would be initiated against the culprits.
During the raids, police seized Rs.18.67 lakh from Arjun Rao’s Siddipet residence.
The state unit of the BJP, meanwhile, condemned the highhanded behaviour of the police during the arrest of Mr Sanjay.
The party also deplored the targeted police raids in the residence of Mr Raghunandhan Rao’s relative.
