A book giving full account of the Opinion Poll held in 1967 in Goa will be released at a function to be held at Multipurpose Hall of the Department of Art and Culture in the city on August 23rd.
According to a press release here on Monday, the book in Konkani written by Shyam Verenkar, retired college teacher, folklorist and writer of several books, deals with genesis of the Opinion Poll, the issues involved, the nature of campaign, the polling process and the analysis of the results.
The book also explains elaborately the respective stands of the mergerists as well as the anti-mergerists and throws light on the political parties, other organisations and the print media.
The book will be released at the hands of former Union Minister Eduardo Faleiro as chief guest while former minister of Goa and prominent social worker Nirmala Sawant will grace the occasion as guest of honour.
The book on the opinion poll is the first in the series of two books planned by the writer and the publisher, Asmitai Pratishthan. The series has been titled “Two Leaves from the History of Goa”
The second book, scheduled for release in October this year, would deal with the genesis and the history of the Official Language agitation which covered a crucial period of 555 days in 1985 and 1986, the relase added.
