Bootlegger arrested, illicit liquor seized in Ganderbal

Srinagar: Police on Monday arrested a bootlegger and seized 75 bottles of illicit liquor from him in Central Kashmir district of Ganderbal.

A police spokesperson said that following specific information, a checkpoint was established at Shuhama crossing in Ganderbal. “Police intercepted a person riding a Scooty at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 75 bottles of illicit liquor”, he said.

“The accused, identified as Ali Gulzar Bhat, a resident of Alamgari Bazar Hawal in Srinagar, was immediately taken into custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” he said.

In this connection, he said a case FIR No 228/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Ganderbal and further investigation has been initiated. “Locals have lauded the efforts of Police and appealed to continue such drives in future as well. Police has resolved to act tough against inimical elements”, he said.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding anti-social elements in their neighbourhood. People found indulging in anti-social activities will be dealt as per law”, he added.
