Chandigarh, Oct 24 (GCSports) Rohan Bopanna of India and Dennis Shapovalov of Canada defeated Austrian pair of Oliver Marach and Jurgen Melzer in straight sets 7-6 (6), 6-2 in the doubles first round match of the € 2,296,490 Erste Bank Open ATP 500 in Vienna.
The match lasted 77 minutes. Bopanna/Shapovalov released three aces and committed four double faults in compariso to five aces and three double faults by theri rivals. Bopanna/Shapovalov saved two of three break points and won three out of eight break points. They kept their first service 58 per cent in.
Marach/Melzer saved five out of eight break points and won on out of three break points while keeping 76 per cent of their service in.
After initially exchanding breaks, Bopanna/Shapovalov were trailing 2-4 in the first set. The Indo-Canadian pair then bounced back into the game and made it 4-4, 6-6 before the set deadlock was broken through tie-breaker and Bopanna/Shapovalov wrapped up the set at 7-6 (6).
In the second set Bopanna/Shapovalov took 2-0 lead by breaking their rivals in the second game and went on to lead 3-2 lead before winning three games in a row to win the set 6-2 and match.
