Breaking Barriers 2019 draws a diversity of women entrepreneurs from across Goa

A resource and inspiration hub for women in business fostered valuable connections to grow and thrive


Goa, September 30: Breaking Barriers 2019, the flagship event of Women’s Web, concluded today at Panjim, and was its 9th and final destination for this year after covering Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Coimbatore and Pune. Over the last 7 years of the existence of Breaking Barriers, it has time and again proved to be a resource and inspiration hub for women in business and over 9000 women have come to #BreakingBarriers so far and made valuable connections that have helped them in their careers.

Exploring the theme, Leading Change as Women in Business, Breaking Barriers 2019 powered by PayU Money saw many accomplished women from the Goa entrepreneur ecosystem come together for this event that happened at 91 Springboard, Goa on Saturday, 28 Sep 2019.

The opening session belonged to Pallavi Salgaocar, Director Dessert N More, and Chairperson, GCCI Women’s Wing who spoke about turning adversities to opportunities. Talking about her own journey, she emphasized the many roles than an entrepreneur needs to play in this journey and said, “Mentoring was a stepping stone to grow the business.”

The event unfolded with many speakers sharing their own success stories and inspiring the women in the audience. Ashwini Tarcar, Proprietor Shree Foods spoke about the resilience of a business owner and how she has mentored many young entrepreneurs in her 24 year long entrepreneurship journey.

Women in Business Soap Box session was powered by PayU, a trusted, easy and secure payment gateway in each of the cities where three women from the audience came forward to share their success mantras. The conversations ranged from sharing challenges in the way of entrepreneurs to the many biases that women face in the business, to being labelled loud and ambitious as pointed out by Rina Baretto, Founder, Cheree Tree Concepts.



The panel discussion on Smart Selling : How to get our customers to be our brand ambassadors had Ethel Da Costa, Founder & CEO, Think Geek Media, Maria Victor, Founder, Make It Happen and Siya Shaikh, Founder, Go Womania Goa on the panel. Coming from three different industries, the audience were exposed to various new perspectives on networking and the tricks and tips of making your business work in its segment. Sapna Shahani from Blurb, Goa emphasised on the importance of ‘word of mouth’ in a business and this thought greatly resonated with the audience.

Overall, an engaging event, one attendee rightfully described it as a ‘symbiotic relationship where everyone grows with each other.’ No surprise then, that each year, this event is being enthusiastically attended by women who are entrepreneurs, SME owners, freelancers, women looking to return to work as well as women who are looking to make it big in the start-up ecosystem.
