Budget 2012: A little give but more take on Casinos

Sending confusing signals on the new BJP-led government’s stand on Casino operations in the state in Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar in his budget speech announced a reduction on the entry fees at casinos in Goa from Rs 2000 to Rs 500.

Simultaneously, the CM has increased the Offshore Casino licensing fees up to Rs 6.5 crore and Onshore Casino licensing fees up to Rs 2.5 crore.

Also on the Casino business, the CM has ensured that Casinos to be allowed only in those hotels rated as 5-star by the Government of India.

He has also restricted the minimum age of entry into casinos up to 21 years and will be increasing the Entertainment Tax on sale of gaming chips in Casinos by 15 per-cent.
