Guangzhou, Dec 13 (GCSports) After losing to world no 1 Kento Momota of Japan in his opening match, Sameer Verma crushed Tommy Sugiarto 21-16, 21-7 in just 40 minutes in his men’s singles Group-B match in the ongoing Badminton World Tour Finals here on Thursday.
Verma took a early lead of 8-6 to put his opponent under pressure. He stretched his lead to 11-7 at the mid-game break.
However, after the first game break, the Indonesian gave Verma a tough fight, reducing Verma’s lead to 17-16. But Verma held his nerve to win four points in a row to wrap up the opening game 21-16.
In the second game, Verma ran riot over his opponent, winning the game and match 21-7.
It was Verma’s second win over Sugiarto, while the Indonesian defeated Verma once out of the three encounters.
