Panjim: While the rest of India adopted stringent strictures of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Casinos companies in Goa and Sikkim decided to evade the GST taxman to tune of Rs 6500 crore.
GoaChronicle.com has learned through informed sources in Directorate of GST Intelligence that the Director General of GST Intelligence – Hyderabad team – ordered a covert investigation into the operations of five casinos in Goa and one in Sikkim after they received an anonymous tip-off on GST evasions.
The investigations were conducted over a period of two months and it revealed that the casinos undervalued GST transactions by paying tax on the net revenues instead of the face value of the bet.
It was also learned that the casinos used to undervalue GST transactions by splitting casino and non-casinos services.
Show cause notices have been issued to the casinos post the completion of the investigation of DGGI.
