The Crime Branch of Goa Police have begun investigations in the illegal mining in Pernem after the Judicial Magistrate First Class order and Arvind Lolienkar, Director of Mines and Geology Department was questioned for nearly three hours on the matter on Wednesday and is also called on Thursday for further investigations.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandrakant Salgaoncar who is investigating the case, sought details of the action taken by the Department after the illegality was brought to its notice in 2007.
Lolienkar, speaking to media persons after the grueling session said the department will co-operate with the investigating authority to the hilt.
Although Nationalist Congress Party leader Jitendra Deshprabhu was also summoned to the Crime Branch, he did not turn up.
The Crime Branch will question Conservator of Forests Dr. Shashi Kumar next followed by Goa State Pollution Control Board Chairman Simon D’Souza and Director of Transport Arun Dessai.
