The Central Bureau of Investigations has set up three different teams headed by investigation officers under the overall supervision of Superintendent of Police to investigate the police-drug dealer nexus cases taken over by it.
Disclosing this Deputy Inspector General of CBI (Anti Corruption Bureau) Pravin Salunke said they have to call in for resources from other branches as the personnel at the Goa branch is inadequate to handle these cases that require a lot of legwork.
Although CBI’s Delhi headquarter has handed over the investigation in these cases to the Goa branch on 18th May, the official notification from the Department of Personnel and Training is still awaited.
The three cases referred to the CBI include the one involving Israeli drug dealer Yaniv Benaim alias Atala who was caught by his then girlfriend Lucky Farmhouse bragging about his links with policemen. The second involves another Israeli drug dealer David Driham alias Dudu. The third case pertains to Police Sub Inspector Sunil Guddler who was caught on camera selling drugs to Dudu’s girlfriend and sister.
Salunke while disclosing that the CBI will start extradition proceedings with regards to Atala who after jumping bail in Goa was arrested in Peru and also revealed that the charge sheet filed against Dudu may have to be quashed.
