CBI Books Mickey, Raids Office & Residence

Even as CBI sleuths raided his residence and office at Betalbatim after booking him for conspiracy and forgery, Mickey Pacheco reiterated his innocence and vowed to co-operate with the officials.
The raid that began early Wednesday evening lasted till late night with over three hours spent in the office scanning records in search of incriminating evidence against the former Tourism Minister and current Member of Goa Legislative Assembly.
CBI have booked Mickey Pacheco for conspiracy, cheating, forgery and certifying forged documents to enable one Pedro Antonio Joanes and another Daniel Raymond Fernandes to travel to the United States in 2007-2008.

He has been booked following complaint from the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, unit of the US State Department. It may be recalled that the Bureau of Diplomatic Security had sent the relevant documents to the Ministry of External Affairs who in turn had referred the matter to the CBI.
The case of the CBI is that Mickey helped Joanes and Fernandes along with others who are not yet named, to obtain crew men employment letters from the US Consulate in Mumbai with the help of forged documents.
However, Mickey Pacheco, who is known to be temperamental, was cool and composed when the CBI officials descended on his house. He escorted the officials to his business premises and gave them access to whatever they asked.
Speaking to media persons Pacheco said he would want the CBI to complete their investigations so that his name is cleared once and for all. He maintained that he was innocent.
He blamed his political rivals for this situation and said that they are spreading all kinds of rumours regarding him because of his growing clout in the State politics and particularly because of the sympathy he has earned following the death of his friend Nadia Torrado.
When media reports on Sunday stated that the Ministry of External Affairs had asked the CBI to investigate Mickey’s alleged involvement in money laundering and immigration frauds, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat had claimed to have no knowledge absolutely of it while Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar has suggested to wait till the CBI completes its investigations.
