The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday informed the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court that the Goa government has not handed over the police-drug dealer nexus case involving Yaniv Benaim alias Atala, to it as yet.
The disclosure was made when the Division Bench of the court was hearing a petition filed by National Students Union of India demanding a CBI probe in the case.
The CBI pointed out that since the case pertains to the State police and the accused are not working for any central government agency or undertaking, the CBI did not have any reasons for taking over the case and further added that the state government has not authorized the CBI to probe the matter.
The CBI while pointing out that the case does not fall within its purview and while pointing out that the Narcotics Control Bureau deals with drug related cases, it has requested the court not to hand over the case to them suggesting that the Narcotics Control Bureau is better equipped to deal with it.
The case will now be heard on 22nd February when the Advocate General is expected to give the Government’s say on the Affidavit.
