Panjim Mayor Yatin Parekh on Thursday issued a temporary stop work order to Kala Academy (KA) stopping its expansion works after several residents of Campal including newly elected corporators objected to the works being carried out and specially the cutting of age old trees.
The expansion of KA premises at Campal being carried out by the Goa State Industrial Development Corporation (GSIDC) entails cutting of nearly 30 trees in the KA complex.
Yatin Parekh said a final decision would be taken after a special meeting is held to discuss this issue but till then the stop work order will remain in force.
Corporator Kabir Makhija has taken strong exception to KA’s expansion programme arguing that it would worsen the congestion in the area. Co-opted corporator Patricia Pinto has also objected to the KA plans.
