Centre to amend IT rules: No father’s name necessary on PAN Card

New Delhi, Sep 1 (UNI) The Government has decided to amend the Income tax rules after which a person whose mother is single parent would not be mandatory to write father’s name on PAN card details.

At present, furnishing of father’s name is mandatory for the allotment of PAN. It is proposed to amend the Income Tax Rules so as to provide that furnishing of father’s name shall not be mandatory for a person whose mother is the single parent, the Finance Ministry said in a statement here on Friday.

Besides this, it is also proposed to amend the Rules for specifying the time-line for making an application for allotment of PAN by certain persons and issuance of PAN.

The government has also asked for advice and comments from stakeholders and public in this regard.
