Mysuru, May 12 (GCBusiness) Premier food technology institute of the country, Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) based in the city and the Karnataka Health Promotion Trust (KHPT) have come together to fight nutritional deficiencies, an official statement said.
The two institutes have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) here on the occasion of National Technology Day on Saturday to work towards addressing malnutrition through fortification.
Under the agreement, CFTRI would partner with KHPT in transfer and implementation of fortification strategies in about 20 wheat milling units.
According to the statement, hunger, malnutrition, hidden hunger, and micro-nutrient deficiencies were some of the challenges the country was facing.
CFTRI has developed and transferred technologies on fortification of wheat flour, and fortification with added micro-nutrients like minerals.
KHPT has engaged itself in efforts to alleviate malnutrition through nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions, according to the institute.
CFTRI Director KSMS Raghavarao and Mohan of KHPT signed the MoU, the release added.
