Change Government in Centre if Goa wants ‘Special Status’: CM
The Chief Minister was replying to a questioned raised by Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho on the ‘Special Status for Goa’.
In his reply, Parrikar stated that when Congress Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Shantaram Naik asked the then Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee for ‘Special Status’, he got the reply ‘No’. When the same questioned was asked to the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, the reply received was also ‘No’. So the only choice left would be the change the government at the Centre.
The Chief Minister assured the House, that his government will pursue the matter diligently with the Centre. However, he asserted that rather than depending on the Centre, the state too will work on formulating appropriate legislation to protect the Goan identity and land resources.
