Changed Visa Rules To Boost Tourism

Although the changed Visa rules is expected to give a boost to foreign arrivals in Goa, two major demands from the State, which would really make Goa an attractive destination, are yet to be addressed.
The Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has reportedly agreed to extend the Visa period for Russians from the present three months to six months and for Britons from six months to a year.
This change was required as visitors from here and other European countries prefer to spend their entire winter in sunny Goa and the visa issued for a short period had made them opt for other destinations.
However, the major hurdle for Goa, the mandatory two month gap before re-entering the country is yet to be resolved. The State Tourism authorities and the stakeholders in tourism industry have been asking for a relaxation in this two-month period as it is proving to be an irritant for visitors who want to return to Goa after a brief holiday elsewhere.
Besides, the demand for issuance of Visa on arrival at the Dabolim airport is yet to be decided by the centre, even though some airports in the country like those at Mumbai, Kolkatta and Delhi have it.
