The Chapoli dam in Canacona taluks has breached its levels for the first time and water is seen overflowing. However, though this is a magnificent sight to behold and augurs well for the farmers, locals are yet to recover from the traumatic experience of the flash floods last year and look at Chapoli dam with worry and concern.
Water Resources Assistant Engineer G D Dessai informed that the water level in the dam has risen consistently since 6th August. There is a possibility of the water level increasing further given the fact that Canacona has already received 125 inches of rainfall so far of the average 150 inches it receives every year.
While locals fear that more rainfall in the area would affect those residing along the banks of the rivers in the taluka, Mr. Dessai revealed that the dam has overflowed for the first time in the month of August.
