In a shocking and horrific incident, more than 20 men, including security guards, lift operators, electricians and plumbers, sexually assaulted a 12-year-old hearing impaired girl for seven months. at an apartment complex in the city.
Police sources on Tuesday said, 17 people were arrested for sexually abusing the minor girl after the incident came to light on Monday evening and went viral.
The victim narrated her seven-month-long trauma after her elder sister found a cut mark in her neck.
Acting on a complaint from the girl’s parents, who were informed by the elder sister, the Aynavaram All Women Police Station registered cases under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and also under various sections of the IPC, including attempt to murder, and arrested 17 people in this connection.
All the 17 accused, in the age group of 23 to 66 years, were mostly services staff of the apartment complex and were charged with committing repeated aggravated sexual assault on a girl child for nearly seven months from January.
After the Mahila Court recorded her statement, the victim also identified some of the culprits.
The offenders were booked under Sections 307 (Attempt to murder), 506(ii) (criminal intimidation) of IPC and Section 5 (Aggravated Penetrative Sexual Assault) 6 (Punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault), 9 (Aggravated sexual assault), 10 (Punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) and 12 (Sexual harassment) of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
