Chimbel heats up, police say no political enmity

A 24-year-old taxi driver from Chimbel was admitted to the Goa medical college and hospital, Bambolim, Thursday morning, after he was assaulted by six persons reportedly due to previous enmity.

The Old Goa police ruled out any political angle to the fight that broke out at Chimbel. The victim’s brother also confirmed that the assault was a result of a previous enmity between the family members of the victim, Sadiq Karazghi, 24, and the accused. The police have booked an assault case against Arif, Shabeer and four others, all residents of Chimbel for assaulting Sadiq.

Police said, the accused persons and Sadiq’s family had an altercation four years ago and since then relations between the two families turned sour. “This worsened in the last one year and misunderstandings between them deepened. We learnt that the two groups also had a slight altercation on Wednesday night, due to which matters worsened,” the police said.

On Thursday night, when Sadiq was going for work at about 9.30pm, the six accused, who were waiting in a car, caught hold of him and assaulted him. Sadiq sustained injuries and was admitted to the GMC.
