The Chowgule Education Society’s Smt. Parvatibai Chowgule Cultural Foundation College of Arts and Science, Margao was established in June 1962. It is the oldest institution providing instruction in Arts and Science streams up to the graduate and post graduate level in the state of Goa.
The College moved into its own new and spacious premises in 1971 and has been affiliated to Goa University since 19th June 1986.
The College was re-assessed by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore in January 2009. NAAC has re-accredited the college with Grade ‘A’ with CGPA score of 3.29 out of 4.
Besides 10+2 education in science and arts streams, the college offers courses like Bachelor in Arts (B. A.), Bachelor in Science (B. Sc.), Master in Arts (Geography), Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Education (PGDCA), Master in Science (Information Technology), Post Graduate Diploma In Human Genetics And Pathological Techniques (PGDHGPT).
Department of Computer Science was constructed in 1992 to provide adequate space for a very spacious Computer Laboratory and Electronics Laboratory, teachers’ room and class rooms. A separate Post Graduate department for M.Sc. (IT) was constructed in 2005. The Computer Science Laboratory developed by the College is the well-equipped laboratory in the state of Goa today.
Chowgule college library is equipped with technology which enables the library to be linked worldwide, and thus facilitates easy access to the users. Its spacious space encompasses reading rooms, book stacks and specialist function area such as visual room and multimedia resource center. It has a collection of 57,794 items covering different subjects. It subscibes to 75 latest scientific as well as general journals. The specialist collection includes books, extensive reference materials, audio visual materials, rare photo collection. More than 2700 bound volumes are available. The Library facilitates 20 laptops.
Thereafter in 2006-08 the entire campus was redesigned and renovated.
The artificial football ground at Chowgule College is on- of-its-kind in South Asia. The football turf has been laid by ‘Field Turf’ (A North American Company) and is the closest replica of natural grass. The grass blades are made up of polyethylene fibers and rubber granules mixed with silica is spread all over the ground and is called as ‘Infill’. The ground is as per FIFA norms and is 100 mtrs x 70 mtrs.The state – of – the – art sports and physiotherapy center provides fitness, sports medicine equipments and training programmes.
