Club Cabana to come under scanner

Stating that Club Cabana is a commercial enterprise on an agricultural land brought by a foreign national which is a violation of the laws of the state and country; and that the government officials have issued the necessary permissions to operate this nightclub; Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai raised a storm demanding a probe into the matter.

In the answer to a question raised on the agricultural Revenue Minister Francis D’Souza stated that German nationals of Indian origin Gregory Daniel Bicalal Shah and Rahul Nicholas Shah have purchased an agricultural property having an area of 13,500 sqmts in S.NO 44/0 of Village of Arpora. However, the answer is in contradiction of F.E.R.A S-31 (1) as also Notification No FEMA 21/2000 Reserve Bank dated 03/05/2000.

In fact the Minister for Law Manohar Parrikar answered the same question vide L.A.Q No 2A rightly stating that foreigners cannot purchase agricultural land.

Speaking on the issue, “It has been said that there has been no co-ordination of the Revenue Department, Town and Country Planning Department which has converted the said land. The permissions must be revoked.

Parrikar stated that the government will order an inquiry into the details furnished by the Fatorda MLA and take the necessary legal position on the matter raised.
