CM must show Navy’s approval on Dabolim existence after Mopa: Reginald

Saying that mere assurances from the Chief Minister of Goa that Dabolim will co-exist when Mopa Airport is functional is not enough. Curtorim Congress MLA Alexio Reginald Lourenco demanded that the CM procure a letter from the Naval Authorities guaranteeing the people of the state of Goa that Dabolim Civilian enclave will not be shut-down once the commercial operations commence at Mopa in the next few years.

Stating that CM is not the competent authority to decide the fate of the Dabolim Airport or give assurances on the same, it is for the Navy to decide on the Dabolim airport future existence. The MLA criticised the government trying to invoke Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act before putting in place the feasibility or viability report of dual airports in the state; nor getting any written assurances from the Indian Navy.

Lourenco further stated that the people of South Goa would not keep quiet if the government puts the Mopa Airport on fast-track.
