CM Promises Jobs to Land Losers

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat while disclosing that the government is in the process of changing the land acquisition policy said that land losers due to government acquisition will now get jobs to compensate their loss.
Speaking at the third Traditional and Cultural Convention organized by Original Goan Scheduled Tribes Association at Curtorim on Sunday he said his government was determined to change the policy to provide for market value for land acquisition besides providing government jobs to the land losers.

He was reacting to the demand made by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Vijay Sardessai’s caustic comments on the government land acquisition policy whereby losers are paid a pittance.
However Rajya Sabha member Shantaram Naik opined that the Goa government need not make any changes as the Centre was in the process of amending the Land Acquisition Act whereby not only would losers be paid the market value of the land and be provided with a job in the government, but more importantly, an impact assessment of the proposed project on the local population will also be made mandatory.
